On the 12th July 2022 Dean was made Honorary Fellow of the NUA. Recognised for his contribution to Photography this prestigious award was bestowed on Dean during the 2022 Graduation ceremony at academic Road Stadium Norwich.

Course Leader for Photography James Smith delivered the Oration, highlighting several aspects of Dean's life and professional career as well as a number of anecdotes reflecting Deans attitude and character. Dean then responded to the award, addressing the audience of 140 Graduates and 800 friends and family in attendance plus the the University authorities.

Dean's message was one of appreciation and pure excitement of the moment, not only for him to be in this 'surreal' position of receiving the Fellowship in light of starting out from a non-academic background, but also his excitement for the Graduates at this moment in their lives, how their journey would also now enter a new phase. He highlighted the fact that life's 'Twists and Turns' can take you in directions unplanned and this is to be embraced, that standing up there in front of the audience was testament to that . He also focused on the appreciation of those around you whether friends, family or like minded people.

It is a great honour to be awarded the Fellowship Honoris Causa of Norwich University of the Arts.
