When Eddie Piller, the man behind Acid Jazz, first mentioned the embryonic Tony Christie project I was intrigued. I know that anything that Acid Jazz gets involved with has a Soulful direction and although Tony recorded ‘Avenues and Alleyways’ in the past (a great soul tune) his more recent work has been along the lines of ‘Amarillo’.

Eddie sent me 4 tracks that were being considered for inclusion on the new album. The moment I heard the opening bars of ‘Nobody in the World’ I was straight back on the phone to Eddie... "This is brilliant! Lets do some pictures!". Tony is such a lovely man, a pleasure to photograph. The images we made will appear as artwork for the Album, Singles and Press.

This Jukebox rotation is dedicated to the Acid Jazz record label. In the past it has brought so much great music to our ears and it is clear that it continues to evolve and act as a catalyst for some truly wonderful new works.

Here is some information about 4 of the artists on the Acid Jazz label that appear on the jukebox.

TONY CHRISTIE - NOBODY IN THE WORLD

Tony Christie releases first single ‘Nobody In The World’ on 8th November. The single is taken from the album ‘Now’s The Time!’ which is set to be released on 17th Jan 2011, through Acid Jazz.

‘Nobody In The World’, is a northern soul British beat tour de force, a stomping love song that cleverly takes this much in vogue sound and blends it with the classic Christie sound.

MEN OF NORTH COUNTRY - MAN OF NORTH COUNTRY

North Country is a state of mind.
Men of North Country is a young, seven-piece soul band from Israel.

Emerging from Tel Aviv’s soul scene the Men of North Country bring a fresh approach to creating the perfect three-minute soul nugget.

Their debut single Man Of North Country was released on Acid Jazz in May of this year is an infectious northern soul stomper with haunting lyrics, backed by a fat brass section and a four-on-the-floor driving drumbeat.

THE FILTHY SIX - GET CARTER

The Filthy six are a London based organ jazz outfit who play a hip-shakingly powerful mixture of soul jazz, funk and boogaloo in the finest traditions of late 60's Blue Note artists such as Lou Donaldson, Grant Green, Cannonball Adderley, Jimmy McGriff and Donald Byrd. Equally at home in the dancehalls of club-land or the more traditional jazz room setting, their music appeals to move-busting dance floor groovers and potent, chin-scratching jazz heads alike.

Their single, lifted from their forthcoming self-titled long player, features a stunning version of Roy Budd's theme from 'Get Carter', that moves the action out of a North-Eastern dockside and onto the dance floor.

April 19th sees the release of the debut single by The Filthy Six on the Acid Jazz label.

TWISTED TONGUE - MINDBEAM

Twisted Tongue represents a carnival of production excellence from creative partnership David Jay and Mark Dalton. They mine the spirit of ‘70’s p-funk and psyche soul mixed with a hint of new electro.

Twisted Tongue’s debut album is released on Acid Jazz on 10th August.
